Fellow Mompreneur and health conasuir, Melanie George-Prachyl, gave us the low down on kids, poop and gut health in this awesome webinar.
One of the things that struck me the most was her great ideas on getting great gut-health-helping foods into your kiddos diet. We REALLY struggle with the veggies in my house, but even my little guy can get on board with her recipes.
First, watch the webinar…
Mell gives a ton of great information about gut health in general and how to help your kiddos be regular!
Then try some gut health foods!
Hummus is a great gut health food, which you can dip crackers or veggies in. Making your own isn’t too hard with this great recipe.
Veggie Noodle Pasta
Most kids can down some spaghetti – turn those into zucchini or squash noodles and they probably won’t even notice the difference. Or mix them so you have some regular and some veggie…baby steps! There are steamable veggie noodles in the freezer aisle!
Go one step further and blend up some carrots, sweet potatoes or other veggies and add it to your jar of sauce.
A family favorite, peel and cut carrots (or rock the baby carrots!!), drizzle a bit of honey and butter, then bake in the oven til tender. You can blend these up and add to ground meat for burgers or meatballs too!
You heard that right…chocolate mousse, as in DESSERT! Avocado and honey make it a winner. Recipe is here!
Fried Rice is a staple at our house, the kids love it and I can get a big bag from Sam’s Club. Now I add in veggie rice too, so it not only makes for more leftovers, but the veggies are baked right in.
It can be hard to find good gut health foods that are processed, but even there, you can find some good choices.
- Organic and spouted breads are helpful! These can be expensive, but worth the extra $$ spent.
- Lara Bars can offer a great taste with only a couple ingredients. But read the labels to try and minimize sugars and other needless ingredients as much as possible.
- Pear Juice is easier on the tummy than prune juice, so keep that handy as well.
And don’t forget the water, water is so key to healthy digestion!!
