Feature Friday: Lindsay Rapp
I first met Lindsay when I awkwardly walked into my first networking meeting, really not sure what to expect. But Lindsay was so kind and genuine, I was immediately put at ease. As a doterra wellness advocate, she is passionate about supporting physical and emotional needs through nutrition, exercise, supplementation and reducing toxic exposure. In fact, I randomly text her on a regular basis for what oil to use for a random ailment!
Lindsay says- “Our pure essential oils are revolutionizing the way families manage their health. We harness nature’s most powerful elements and share these gifts through our global community of Wellness Advocates.”
Here’s the Rest of the Interview:
What made you want Rappsody In Oil ?
Initially, I wasn’t looking to start a business! I was simply looking for natural, effective options for everyday things: cleaning, personal care, sickness, mood management, etc. I was blown away with all the ways to incorporate essential oils into every day living, and as a stay-at-home-mom, I loved learning cost-saving DIY recipes. A couple months into using dōTERRA essential oils, I found myself mentioning them to friends and family OFTEN. It was one of my best friends who introduced me to dōTERRA, and she also happened to have extensive experience with another Direct Marketing company. She was quite successful with that company, so when she started seriously considering switching her career to dōTERRA, she had my attention. At the same time, our youngest child had entered Kindergarten, and a nonchalant question from my husband prompted me to consider going back to work. I realized that I had no interest in working for someone else, and that if I was spending time outside of our home, I wanted it to be for something that I was passionate about, and that would make a difference in other people’s lives. At that point, I had been around dōTERRA long enough to know their culture and heart for helping others was very much in line with my own. dōTERRA also happens to have a phenomenal compensation plan when compared to other Multi-level Marketing companies.
What excites you the most about your work?
The most exciting and rewarding part of my job is hearing an “aha moment” from a customer. That moment when he/she used an oil for a specific ailment and it worked quicker and more effectively than expected. I love winning over a skeptic. Not everyone thinks they need essential oils in their life, and that’s okay. They are wrong though. Hahahahaha. I have to add – the paycheck is pretty sweet too. After 9 years of my husband being the sole bread-winner, it was a really great feeling to be able to relieve some of the pressure for him. He has been able to switch jobs, (once with a pretty significant pay cut – it was more than worth the stress-cut!) because I was making a very nice supplemental income. Now I make more money annually than I ever did working a full-time, salaried job with Corporate America.
What is your biggest challenge?
I still sometimes fall into prioritizing the urgent over the important. Usually, the “urgent” is someone else’s urgent matter, and I will let that take precedence over my own important matters, especially when I believe it won’t take a ton of effort on my part to make a big impact for someone else. (For those readers who are fans of the Strengthsfinder assessment, that’s the “basement” of my Adaptability strength).
How do you find harmony or balance between being a mom and a business owner?
I am pretty certain “balance” is a complete and total myth. However, I do like that word harmony. I definitely think we have a harmonious home. Now. (not so much when we had 2 preschoolers, haha). Since my kids are old enough to understand what is involved in running a home-based business, they are able to help out (either picking up the slack with household chores, or with small tasks for my business). They also keep me accountable to spend my time wisely – when they are waiting for mom to “finish work”, I know that I need to fully focus on whatever I am working on, so I can give them my full attention later. Moreover, my husband is fantastic. When he sees something needs to be done, he does it. Whether it’s making dinner or bathing the dog…I never think twice about going out of town for several days and having him run the household.
Tell us about your family.
My husband Mark grew up here, and I grew up in Niagara Falls, NY. We met in Dayton, OH, and lived in Kernersville, NC for 10 years. We moved back to St. Louis area at the end of 2010. We currently have 2 middle schoolers…our daughter is going into 8th grade and our son is starting 6th grade. Some days I look at this smart, handsome 6th grader (whose feet are as big as mine now) and marvel that this is the same little red-haired preschooler who threw all.the.tantrums.and.was.surely.going.to.go.to.Kindergarten.in.diapers.and.never.ever.eat.fruit.or.meat. <3.
If you could pick anything, what would your super power be?
Teleporting! I love our home, but there are so many times I would like to be near a friend or family member in need and wish I could just snap my fingers and be there. Also, transporting to the beach once a week would be AWESOME!!!
What one piece of advice do you have for a mom that needs your service?
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I love getting to know new people and making new friends, even if they never become essential oil users. If you have a need though, even if you think there’s very little chance I could help, please just ask! There are no questions too crazy for me to find an answer to. I promise :). Don’t put it off – your health is worth the effort.
